Formula One presenter Natalie Pinkham just gave birth to her second child, a baby girl. The power woman talked to SLACKS & CO. about her second pregnancy, motherhood and her career.
What is the secret behind your Mummy Glow? Do you have a beauty routine?
No time for a beauty routine as such...the extent of the pampering is shower at the moment! Ark and Elemis are my favourite products right now.
Have you changed any aspect of your health / exercise / nutrition routine since finding out that you are pregnant?
I swear by pregnancy yoga - my instructor Zara from Love Yogi is a saint.. It's so calming but challenging at the same time; a perfect interlude in a hectic schedule. My husband is vigilant about diet and nutrition... Which can be a bit boring - but I appreciate it really. I am determined to cut down on sugar; and he is helping me do that.
What do you miss most while pregnant?
Rose wine ;)
What is the best career advice you could offer pregnant women looking to balance career with motherhood?
Best advice is not to listen to advice; it only makes you question just about every decision you make. Ultimately you know what's best for you and your baby; it's no one else's right to judge. My midwife told me that when the placenta is removed, it is replaced by maternal guilt! This is a shame; whatever decisions we make as mums, particularly working mums - we are left wondering whether we have gone in the right direction.
A Mom to be/Mom that you admire?
My mum is my greatest role model... I would love to emulate her in terms of career and being a good mum. She works incredibly hard as a barrister, but I always felt like I had love by the bucket load growing up. She got the balance just right - although she tells me she questioned it a lot at the time. If I do even half as good a job as a mother as she has, I will have achieved a lot.
Your best fashion purchases this season? What are the aspects you pay attention to?
Capes - they keep you cosy and fit any size of bump
Your favourite Mom/Mom-to-be Blogs and/or magazines?
I talk more to friends than read books and magazines... I have three or four of my closest mates who are mums on speed dial, and just run things past them.
In 5 words, what kind of Mom you are or would like to be?
I would like to be:
Patient, fun, loving, brave, approachable as a mum... It's all very much a work in progress :) it's the first 'job' though I have ever had that never feels stressful or a chore. I love every minute of it.
